Where you spend your travel dollars matters

There are a lot of factors that go into designing the perfect trip. We take into account the obvious points like location, level of service, safety and more, but did you realize that Travel Theory also preferences the experiences and hotels that we recommend based on their commitment to local communities and wildlife? Read on to learn more about a few of the foundations and causes that we love to champion because who you support with your travel dollars matters.

The KAI Foundation

Founded by Kartagener Associates Inc (KAI), the KAI Foundation was born out of a desire to give back to the communities that have played a vital role in the company’s success. Celebrating its 20th anniversary in August 2015, KAI transitioned from small-scale initiatives to the creation of the KAI Foundation, dedicated to making a significant impact on communities globally. Now in its 8th year, the foundation has touched the lives of many across the world, embodying the vision of founder and chairman Henry Kartagener.

The KAI Foundation stands as a beacon of hope, focusing on breaking the cycle of poverty by providing essential services like quality healthcare and education. Recognizing the stark reality that these services are often inaccessible to the majority in developing countries, the foundation strives to bridge the gap. With a mission to offer facilities and support, the KAI Foundation aims to empower the less fortunate, helping them build successful lives and promising futures for themselves and their children. Henry Kartagener’s vision drives the foundation’s commitment to assisting those in need, ultimately contributing to a brighter tomorrow for future generations.

The Kwanini Foundation

At the heart of the Kwanini Foundation’s mission is the empowerment of Pemba Island’s residents, fostering the creation of sustainable and resilient communities. Through initiatives in education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and marine protection, the foundation actively engages in building a brighter future for the island. With a commitment to leaving only footprints and taking nothing but memories, The Kwanini Foundation collaborates closely with local communities, striving to enhance their understanding and conservation efforts for the natural world that sustains them.

The Kwanini Foundation’s vision is crystal clear – a positive contribution to the future of Pemba Island. By aligning efforts with local communities, the foundation aims to create a lasting impact on the island’s trajectory. Education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and marine protection serve as pillars for this transformative journey. Through their dedicated work, The Kwanini Foundation not only envisions but actively works towards a future where Pemba Island thrives, its people are empowered, and the delicate balance of the natural world is preserved for generations to come.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT)

Central to the The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s mission is the protection and rehabilitation of wildlife in East Africa, with a particular focus on elephants. Established 45 years ago, SWT operates the world’s first and most successful orphan elephant rescue program, known as the Orphans’ Project. Beyond this flagship initiative, the Trust embraces a holistic approach, incorporating anti-poaching measures, environmental preservation, community awareness, and veterinary assistance for animals in need. As one of Africa’s oldest wildlife charities, SWT is dedicated to safeguarding not only individual orphaned elephants but also the broader conservation, preservation, and protection of diverse species and habitats across Kenya.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust envisions a future where wildlife thrives in harmony with local communities and their natural environment. By partnering with us, you contribute to this transformative journey, supporting initiatives that extend beyond elephant rescue to encompass the preservation of keystone species like rhinos and iconic African elephants. Through our collaboration with SWT, we actively participate in shaping a sustainable and resilient future for East Africa’s wildlife, ensuring that the delicate balance of ecosystems is preserved for generations to come.
